What's Next? The End of One Chapter

Ka Chai Yang

As I’m preparing to move forward to the next phase of my journey, I’m also reflecting on my experiences, from the classrooms of UW-Madison and the offices of S.C. Swiderski (SCS). I am amazed at how this internship has reshaped my career aspirations and paved the way for future exciting opportunities.

After graduation, I returned to my home in Wausau where I was able to secure an internship with the development department at SCS. I found it both humbling and inspiring to participate on a team who worked on significant housing projects. At SCS, I collaborated with a diverse team where my contributions and unique design insights were genuinely appreciated. The encouragement and acknowledgment of my worth within the company have fueled my ambition to pursue an advanced degree in architecture. As I transitioned from a student to the workforce, I was able to be a contributor, creator, and problem-solver. I could apply my academic learning to real-world challenges. The projects I worked on extended beyond research and design; they focused on crafting impactful solutions that truly make a difference.

The internship at SCS has not only marked a significant career achievement but also provided a transformative experience that has altered my professional outlook. As I transition to the next phase of my career, I will bring these invaluable lessons with me, facing future opportunities and challenges with newfound confidence.

While this chapter may be ending, it’s only the beginning of a more exciting journey. I’ll continue to expand my professional experience in Miami, FL. This new adventure will allow me to apply the knowledge and skills I’ve gained to a different city, and I am hopeful that I will also gain a new perspective to interior and architectural design. Furthermore, I am also hopeful that I will also engage in a graduate program where I will learn about Southern US architecture and design.

Although this chapter is closing, it marks the start of an even more thrilling adventure. I’ll be continuing my professional journey in Miami, FL. This new venture will enable me to utilize my acquired knowledge and skills in a different setting, and I am optimistic that it will also offer fresh insights into interior and architectural design. Additionally, I look forward to participating in a graduate program focused on Southern US architecture and design.

I'm pleased to say that I will be staying with SCS for an additional month or two before concluding this chapter. The experience has been wonderful and I’m glad it isn’t quite over. I'm very grateful to S.C. Swiderski for providing me with such a fantastic opportunity!
