Explorers Blog: Graduation & Beyond
S.C. Swiderski embarked on a partnership with Samoset Council, B.S.A. to help young people decide on their future careers. The SCS Exploring Group program provided an opportunity for seven area high school students to explore what it is we do here at S.C. Swiderski via a monthly program designed specifically around their expressed interests. The initial orientation began in November 2019, with the last class taking place in April 2020.
Our Explorers graduated this week! We can’t believe how quickly our classes flew by. This group was ready for anything – whether it was learning about business development, interior design, site planning, maintenance (timed assembly of door locks!), or real estate - they brought their A-game each month and were prepared to participate. The students were also oh-so-gracious when it came to having our last class via an online format.
April’s class topic was: Real Estate. S.C. Swiderski formed a new real estate company earlier this year: SCS Real Estate. We created YouTube videos for the class teaching them the complexities of MLS listings and property data, and how our real estate company ties in with development and our quest for land. The students were asked to find land for us using Zillow.com with specific criteria, explaining why the land would be the perfect site for S.C. Swiderski’s next development. Although this wasn’t our original plan for April, they took it in stride and found some great properties for us to research!
Due to restrictions presented by COVID-19, we were unable to hold the very special graduation ceremony at Urban West planned for May 5th. The Explorers will receive a framed graduation certificate for completing the program, as well as assorted S.C. Swiderski goodies via care package delivered to their doorsteps. We’d like to thank all of the participants for taking time out of their busy schedules to learn. If even one student in this program learned a skill they may want to incorporate into their future plans, we consider that to be a huge success.
A very special thank you to the Samoset Council, B.S.A for their sponsorship of the SCS Exploring Group. We will be partnering together again this fall with even bigger goals! Those students who are not seniors, please consider joining us again in September to sign-up. If you enjoyed these courses, please share with friends and family who may be interested. It was our pleasure getting to know you all, and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
